- Have a game plan! Identify the space to be designed, Who is the client?....It’s you silly!, What is the space used for?, What is my budget/ time frame?
- Buy everything in sight and return the items that don’t fit. This will save you time and money in the long run.
- Avoid trends. Roller blades and fanny packs...need I say more?
- Design for livable, not just loveable.
- Create drama with lighting. Mix direct and in-direct lighting to create texture in a room. Put switches on dimmers.
- Pick pieces for their integrity, not just their price. Use pieces with cleaner lines and less pattern for versatility.
- Mix old and new! Tell a story without saying a word.
- Take a chance. You can always change it. After all, the only one that has to love it is you.
- If you are afraid of color, use a subdued palette and bring in color with the accessories. If you rent and cannot paint, use large canvas stretchers covered with the fabric color of your choice.
- Decorate naked!.......who knows it could be fun!
